ACCORDING TO THE GUIDELINES OF OUR CONSTITUTION, THE EXECUTIVE BOARD WILL MAKE THE APPOINTMENT TO FILL THIS VACANCY.
AFSCME members bring different skills, abilities and strengths to the job of being a union steward. As a union steward, you will be trained to be able to listen to the problems and concerns of members. Don't worry, leadership will be there to help you every step of the way. Steward training is provided and you will never be left alone to guess how to respond. AFSCME 411 officers, executive board members, and current union stewards will help you and guide you until you feel comfortable with your abilities.

Please include the following:

  • Any past experience in a union
  • Why you are interested in being a union steward
  • Where you work and date of hire
  • Telephone number (preferably cell phone) and email address
  • Any questions you have about being a union steward
  • Any restrictions that may prevent you from attending union meetings the first Wednesday of every month

The duties of the steward:

  • Meeting with members to discuss contract violations
  • Writing first step grievances
  • Writing second step grievances
  • Meeting with the employer

Stewards must attend membership meetings on the first Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm. to make sure you are aware of all current issues going on within the local.

​You will be asked to appear before the AFSCME 411 executive board. This is the governing board of the union. This board approves the application of all union stewards. President Cangemi will call you at the number provided with the date and time.
