ACCORDING TO THE GUIDELINES OF OUR CONSTITUTION, THE EXECUTIVE BOARD WILL MAKE THE APPOINTMENT TO FILL THIS VACANCY.

Please include the following:

  • Any past or present union experience in AFSCME or any other union
  • Assets you possess that would make you a good Vice President
  • Obstacles in your current County job that will prevent you from being available during business hours
  • Obstacles that will prevent you from attending monthly membership and/or executive board meetings

The duties of the vice president:

  • Assist the president in the work of the president’s office;
  • In the absence of the president or in the president’s inability to serve, the vice-president shall preside at all meetings and perform all duties otherwise performed by the president;
  • Be authorized to act as co-signer of checks drawn on the local funds in place of either the president or the treasurer;
  • Act as chief steward and be a member of the steward’s committee; and,
  • Perform such other duties as the executive board and/or the president may require.

In addition, the vice president is expected to attend all executive board meetings and membership meetings on the first and third Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm.
 
The vice president is automatically a member of the negotiating team.
 
The vice president is the chief steward of the local and may represent and file grievances for all areas represented by AFSCME, including MTB.
 
Per AFSCME 411 Constitution, the vice president will be reimbursed union dues on a quarterly basis and will receive a monthly stipend of $133.91/month. The local also provides the vice president with a union cell phone and computer in the local office.
 
The contract language states the vice president gets 2 hours release time when the president is gone less than 15 calendar days and when the president is gone more than 15 days, full time release.
